Follow the flow.
A map of the listed companies rebuilding, measuring, treating and conserving the world's water systems.
Water demand rises while aging pipes, tighter quality standards and climate pressure force systems to do more with less.
Trace who pays, how spending becomes revenue, and whether a company can fund growth without destroying returns.
SEPTEMBER 2026
Water is essential.
Returns are earned.
The need is enormous, but need alone is not an investment case. A utility must recover spending through rates. An equipment maker must turn orders into cash. A technology supplier needs repeat purchases, not just a good story.
This report follows the spending chain from the public problem to a listed company. It is a starting map for due diligence, not a set of buy calls.
Start with the bill payer. Ratepayers, municipalities, industry and farmers have different budgets and incentives.
Follow renewal before novelty. Pipe replacement and wastewater upgrades represent documented spending, even if orders arrive unevenly.
Match the metric to the model. Rate base, backlog, recurring mix, free cash flow and water saved answer different questions.
Price still matters. A durable water franchise can be a poor investment at the wrong valuation or with too much debt.
Where water
capital flows.
Pick a demand driver. The connected layers show where spending can reach public companies. Select a ticker to inspect the business model and the metric that matters most.
Connections show plausible revenue exposure, not measured market share or a forecast.
Four questions before any ticker.
Who pays?
Identify the utility, city, factory or farm with the budget.
What gets approved?
Separate estimated need from funded, permitted and ordered work.
What repeats?
Look for installed base, consumables, service or regulated asset growth.
What is left for owners?
Check cash conversion, debt, dilution and the price paid.
The need, in numbers.
Published infrastructure need is a demand signal. It is neither funded backlog nor revenue for the companies below. The two US surveys cover different assets, years and price bases, so their totals are shown separately.

Distribution and transmission dominate. Pipe, valve, meter and construction suppliers may have exposure, but procurement and rate approvals decide timing.
Read the denominator
Global access gaps and US capital surveys describe different populations. No figures here are added into a single addressable-market estimate.
Compare recent share-price moves with the operating case. A fall is a question to investigate, not proof of value; a gain is not proof of quality.
Yahoo Finance historical closes, split-adjusted and excluding dividends. Returns compare the 28 Sept 2026 close with the first trading close on or after the calendar date 1, 3, 6 or 12 months earlier. “From high” uses the highest close in the observed year. Click a company for its chart.
Six ways to
own the work.
Each layer has a different path from water need to shareholder return. The key metric changes with that path.
Compare the
business models.
Sort and filter the research universe by exposure and revenue model, then use price moves as context. “Water focus” is an editorial classification, not a reported percentage of sales.

Six to study first.
An unranked cross-section of water business models. Selection reflects clarity of exposure and the variety of the spending chain. It is not a recommendation or a price target.
What could
go wrong.
The need for water investment is not disputed. Timing, funding, company economics and share valuation can still disappoint.

How this report works
The company universe is illustrative and unranked. A company's inclusion means it participates in a water-related activity; it does not imply that all revenue comes from water or that it is attractively valued. “Pure”, “Majority” and “Mixed” are qualitative labels. Prices are an embedded 28 September 2026 snapshot. Returns exclude dividends and are in each listing's currency. Do not compare the absolute share prices across currencies. Valuation multiples are omitted because accounting and capital structures differ across this set.
